Like most printers, it reports "Low" as ink is used up, and then "Empty. Buying ink cartridges for a Canon printer is sometimes costly, especially if you use your printer regularly and need new cartridges often. Press Resume to Continue" when it calculates it is potentially damaging to the print-head to continue. Refilling Canon printer cartridges is a great way of saving money, as well as avoiding buying new ones. However, when cartridges have been refilled, the printer does not recognise that the cartridge is full. Other Canon printers have the provision to go past "Empty" until a message like "Stop. unless you press to disable ink-level monitoring at risk of harming your printer." (which I've never done with any of my printers. My MP990 has several ink tanks that are at the point of reporting "Low" and "Empty". In many cases, you can press and hold the ok or resume button on the front of the printer for about 10 seconds.

Somewhat out of curiosity, I've been wondering about issuing a series of "Cleaning" and then "Nozzle Check" to see if ink level monitoring will get to the point of asking if I want to disable ink level monitoring.
Close the cartridge door, and then let go of the power button. Open the ink cartridge door while holding down the power button and reconnect the power cables with the power button pressed. #PIXMA MP990 LOW INK CARTRDGE RESET SERIES# Reset cartridges by unplugging the printers power and USB cables. This prompts resetting Canon ink cartridge and should allow you to continue printing. The easiest fix is to turn off the status monitor. My impression is this sequence of Cleaning+Nozzle-Check is harmless, and won't cause print-head over-heating from ink starvation. First, locate the button that will do this - its on the front panel of the printer and may be marked 'STOP', 'RESUME', 'CLEAR', 'RESET' or any combination of these. I've been quite happy with my MP990, especially that it has gray ink with multiple nozzle sizes. I don't want to risk harming the print-head. I am not at all advocating that a person disable ink level monitoring. Is there a need for you to disable ink monitoring such as you are refilling but there is no way to reset chip as it used to be with the PRO-100 CLI-42 cart? I do have a 90 MKII as well as several PRO-100sĮxactly WHY do you even want to do this again? On my 9000-2, I've encountered the "Stop" a few times, which I consider a nice "Warning of Last Resort". So again, why do you want to disable ink monitoring?
